Shipping & Delivery
We ship within 1 to 2 business days, and you will get tracking by email as soon as your order is on its way so you can follow it to your door. Standard delivery reaches most Australian addresses within a few business days, with regional and remote areas taking a little longer. If you need it in time for a birthday or Christmas, order early and get in touch if you are working to a tight date, and we will do our best to help.
Yes. We offer free shipping Australia-wide on your order, so the price you see is the price you pay with nothing added at checkout. Delivery times still vary a little by location, with metro addresses arriving fastest and regional or remote areas taking a few extra days. You will always get tracking by email so you can keep an eye on where your parcel is.
Orders & Payments
If there is a problem with your order, contact us with your order number and we will sort it out. We would rather your child was using the microscope than stuck on a hitch with a slide kit or a delivery mix-up. Reach out as early as you can, ideally before your order has shipped, and we will help you get it right.
The cheap optical scopes look like a bargain until the weekend they get abandoned, because they need an eye lined up to a tiny eyepiece, prepared slides and just-right lighting. Most kids see nothing, get frustrated and never touch it again, which is why so many get returned. The WonderScope sits in a middle tier that puts the image on a screen straight away, so your child actually keeps using it. That is where the value is.
Product Questions
WonderScope shows the magnified image on a built-in LCD screen instead of through an eyepiece. An integrated camera and LED ring light capture and light up the specimen, then feed the picture live to the screen at up to 1000x magnification. Your child puts the tip over an object, adjusts the distance until the image settles, and sees the detail on screen. There is no eye to line up and no lighting to fuss over, which is exactly why kids keep using it.
A traditional compound optical scope makes your child line an eye up to an eyepiece, prepare slides and control the lighting just right, which is the exact set of steps kids abandon. The WonderScope replaces all of that with a live image on an LCD screen, lit by its own LED ring, viewed directly and shared with others. It means results in moments rather than a fight to get anything in focus.
Everyday things around the house and garden come alive on the screen. Kids love examining leaves, insect wings, fabric threads, salt crystals and onion skins at the kitchen table, and coins up close to see the fine surface detail. Take it outside and they can inspect bugs and plant material they have collected in the backyard. There is almost always something new within arm's reach to slide under the lens.
Straight away, and that is the whole point. The screen-first design means your child places the tip over something like a bit of onion skin, adjusts the distance until the image steadies, and sees the cells on the screen within moments, no help needed. A seven year old can typically run it independently after a quick demonstration, so you are not sitting beside them the whole time just to keep it working.
It is designed for children roughly 3 to 12 years old, with the sweet spot around 6 to 12. Younger children in that range will want a parent to help with the initial setup, while a seven year old can typically run it on their own after a quick demonstration. We do not recommend it for children under about 3 to 4, since the controls and small parts suit slightly older hands.
The body is plastic with a matte white and blue finish, built to handle everyday use by children rather than sit on a shelf. The parts that hold the specimen, the stage clips and stage components, are metal for a firm grip on whatever your child is examining. There is nothing sharp to line up against an eye, because your child views everything on the screen from a comfortable distance rather than pressing a face to an eyepiece. The controls are simple enough for a seven year old.
Each slide in the prepared slide kit comes already mounted, so the specimen is cut thin, laid flat and sealed under glass before it reaches you. That removes the fiddly prep step a young child cannot manage alone. Your child just places a slide on the stage, looks at the screen and sees the detail straight away. It is the fastest way to get a satisfying first image and keep them coming back.
Yes. The slides are the standard 25x75mm size, which is the size the WonderScope stage clips are made to hold. They sit flat and centred under the lens with no adjustment needed. If your microscope takes standard glass slides, these will fit. A young child can slide one under the clips, look at the screen and explore on their own, with no cutting or mounting for a parent to do.
No, it complements it. Prepared slides give your child something to view instantly and build confidence with the microscope. Later, when they are older and keener, they can try preparing their own leaves or onion skin. The kit gets them started without the fiddly barrier at the beginning, and because the slides are sealed they travel and store well for a rainy-day science session whenever curiosity strikes.
The notebook gives your child a place to record what they see, sketch a specimen, jot down what magnification they used and note what surprised them. It turns a quick look on the screen into a proper observation habit, which is how curiosity turns into learning. Pairing it with the microscope and a stack of prepared slides gives your child a whole science routine rather than a one-off novelty.
Care & Use
Start with something flat and high-contrast like a coin, an onion skin or a leaf, because those give a quick, satisfying first image that hooks them. Encourage your child to move the tip slowly and let the picture settle before adjusting the focus, rather than rushing. Because photos and short videos can be captured on screen, let them build a little record of their finds, and use the notebook to write down what they spotted.
Most observation sessions run around 8 to 12 minutes, which is a natural burst of focus for a curious child before they go and find the next thing to look at. Because there is no eyepiece to line up and no slides to prepare, getting started takes seconds, so it is easy to pull out on a rainy afternoon or after a backyard hunt. A stack of prepared slides means there is always something new to load, so it stays in use long after the first novelty.
Yes. Because the image shows on a shared LCD screen rather than through a single eyepiece, two or more children can crowd around and see the same thing at once, which makes it brilliant for siblings or a family science session. Setup takes seconds, so it fits neatly into a rainy Sunday or a school-holiday morning without a lot of fuss.
Wipe the body down with a soft, dry or barely damp cloth after sessions, especially when your child has been looking at outdoor finds like leaves and bugs. Keep the lens area and screen free of dust and fingerprints with a gentle wipe, since a clear lens is what keeps the image sharp on screen. Store it somewhere dry and out of direct sun. Keep the prepared slides in their case so they stay flat and sealed between uses.
Returns, Refunds & Guarantee
You are covered by a 30-day satisfaction guarantee. Give it to your child, let them look at a few leaves and coins and onion skins, and see whether it sparks the curiosity you were hoping for. If it is not the right fit within 30 days, get in touch with your order number and we will sort out a refund. We would rather you were happy than hold you to a purchase that did not land.
If there is a problem with your order, contact us with your order number and a photo if you can, and we will make it right. We want your child using the microscope, not stuck on a hitch with a faulty part or a broken slide. Reach out and we will help you get a replacement or refund sorted quickly.
About WonderScope
WonderScope is built for curious kids roughly 6 to 12 and the families who want a science tool that actually gets used, not one that gets abandoned after a weekend. Everything we make, from the screen-first microscope to the prepared slide kit and the experiment notebook, is designed to get children looking, recording and coming back for more without a parent needed at every step.
Because the eyepiece is where most kids give up. Lining up an eye, preparing a slide and getting the lighting just right is a lot to ask of a young child, and when they see nothing they lose interest. Putting the image on a shared LCD screen removes that barrier, so results come in moments and the whole family can look together. That single change is what keeps the microscope in use.
